Gs1 identification keys in trasport & logistics.The GS1 System is the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world and comprisesthe standards, guidelines, solutions and services created in formalised and collaborative processes.The GS1 System is an integrated system of global standards that provides for accurate identificationand communication of information regarding locations, products, assets, services and locations. TheGS1 identification standards, known as GS1 Identification Keys, bring value by permitting secure andportable identification across technologies such as barcodes, RFID tags and electronic messages, andby connecting the physical flow of goods and services to the flow of information.
Global Trade Item Number (GTIN)
Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) can be used by a company to uniquely identify all of its trade items. GS1 defines trade items as products or services that are priced, ordered or invoiced at any point in the supply chain
Global Location Number (GLN)
• The GLN can identify a company’s physicallocations, for example a store, a warehouse, ora berth in a port.• The GLN can be used to identify anorganisation as a corporate entity.• The GLN can also identify a company’s legaland functional entities engaging as parties in aparticular business transaction, for example asbuyer, seller, or carrier.• The GLN is encoded in either a barcodeor EPC/RFID tag to automatically identifylocations like storage places in a warehouse,the destination of a pallet, or the origin of aproduct.• The GLN can be used in electronicmessages and registries to inform tradingpartners about companies and theircorresponding GLNs and associated GLNinformation.
